Change Doesn't Always Have To Jingle...

Change can come in many forms. It can come in the form of something radical, like a dramatic haircut, it can take the form of a newly decorated room, turning veggie or vegan, cutting out people from your life, or, as it has in my case, it can take the form of a revamped blog.

My blog, "My Happy Place", is a place on the Internet for me to escape to when I feel the need. I can spend an hour writing a post, publish it and feel like I have accomplished something, even when I'm just out to relax. Its the perfect medium for me, as a person who loves to write, (and bitch on the Internet when the mood takes me) to voice my thoughts and opinions. Many people choose to record vlogs, pod casts, keep a private journal, whatever works for them! This works for me. It's also a bonus that it may make someone smile, or inspire them to do something similar. Though even if this blog never reached the eyes of anyone but me, I would be OK with that too.

After 25 posts, you'd think I'd have the hang of it by now, but it has been a learning curve for me. As in life, nothing is ever perfect the first time around. 25 posts, and countless unpublished drafts later, and I'm only just getting around to making my web space a polished, easily navigable space. But I think its working out well.

Self Improvement And A New Series...

"Self-improvement is masturbation," Tyler Durden, Fight Club. Thankfully, this opinion doesn't really resonate with me, because I believe that self improvement makes people better versions of themselves.

Since I'm 21 now, which means I'm older, and therefore apparently wiser, I've decided I need to dress a bit better, and put a bit more effort into myself. Not just for me, but I have a boyfriend of 2 years who I think deserves to not have his girlfriend live in baggy tracksuit bottoms and oversize jumpers (even if they are warm and fuzzy...and stolen from his wardrobe half the time!!) because, lets face it, when you do that, it gets boring. And I don't want to bore my lovely man!

So, I've made three decisions and I'm going to stick to them.

Mani-Q No.1 - The Fault in our Stars

Some back story...

Before Christmas, I went to a nail salon with one motive, and one only. To get some help to stop biting my nails.

I've Had A Little "Me" Time...

...And now I feel much more capable of being there for everyone I love!

This week got off to a bad start but today seems to be making up for it. Its been a very long time since I've had to lock myself into the bathroom and cry. Incidentally, I hope its a long time until I need to again! It wasn't something I felt nostalgic about or anything of the sort, in fact, it gave me a headache that I had for hours later... So at least I am happy about being very level lately! Thanks to Kayliegh for reminding me I'm allowed to have a bad day, I appreciate the reminder.

So between yesterday and right now, things that have made me smile are as follows...

I Like A Lot of Books....

...And so I want to share my "Top 5" books that I enjoy... This could become a nerd-out, but I will do my best to contain it. And also, I am not including the Harry Potter books, Lord of the Rings, or The Hunger Games Trilogy because, a) that's 13 books, and b) they are in their own league!

In no particular order, I give thee...

1. Now is Good (Before I Die) by Jenny Downham.

I have a blog-post about this. I wont go into the plot, but I will say this: I sobbed like a baby during this book. It broke my heart!!

Have tissues on hand for this one!

2. Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt.

I have read this half a dozen times since I was 12 or 13.

Its the memoir of Franks own life and childhood. You will laugh, cry and it will have you reminiscing on your own childhood after you close the book...

3. The Fault in our Stars by John Green.

Forgive this one, I'm still in TFioS mode from Wednesday night. But the fact remains that this book is amazing! Another book to go along with a giant box of Kleenex.

Okay?
Okay.

4. One Day by David Nichols.

This chronicles Em and Dex, the same day, every year for 20 years. I was skeptical when I read it but it was amazing! It has a great twist at the end that you are absolutely not expecting.

A great book, and very engrossing! :D

5. Assassins Creed: Brotherhood by Oliver Bowden.

Technically it shouldnt be on the list because I havent finished it, but I am enjoying it so much I think I can tell you that this book, is indeed the novel of a video-game. I am unashamed to say this. It follows Ezio Auditore DiFirenze as he attempts to take down Borgia forces who are destroying Rome.

Buy it. Read it.
Love it.

What are your Top 5 Books? Leave a comment and let me know!

Vlogbrothers In Dublin!

Lets start by just assuming you don't know who John and Hank Green are...

The "Vlogbrothers" are a YouTube duo that began their channel in 2007, with the plan that they would communicate every day for a year via video-blog! Cool idea, right? Well it gets better! With this idea, that they entitled "Brotherhood:2.0", though they were publicly available videos, they really only started to actively gain notoriety about 6 months into the project, thanks to Hanks AMAZING song, "Accio Deathly Hallows", a song about the upcoming Harry Potter book (at the time). Thankfully when B:2.0 ended in the December of '07, they continued to make videos and have gained a huge global fan-base  and in the last 5 years, 6 if you count the B:2.0 year, they have founded and created more awesome things than most people do in a lifetime!
